In 2004, Air Water Earth Uganda was formed by his colleagues hence embracing the idea and also started the company in Rwanda.
Kayima’s portrays a message of hope and commitment towards the environment.
Speaking about the World Environment Day celebration slated for tomorrow, June 5th here in Rwanda, he said, "Man should know that the environment creates a Web of Life of which man is a mere strand; whatever he does to it he is doing to his own life.”
In line with this, Air Water Earth Rwanda designed the Environment Impact Assessments which comprise of guidelines and regulations that promote the preservation of the environment.
Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) allows companies and environment practitioners to asses environmental issues before REMA authorizes policies and enforces of rules and regulations.
Kenezio Kayima said: "Environment Impact Assessments (EIA) Certificates are awarded by REMA to investors before constructing an Industry.”
"We look at various constraints on the environment and provide possible solutions on how to resolve the issue for example; in the Cleaner Production Process, AWE Rwanda audits the process so as to advise on the cost efficiency, minimize on the environment effects and reduce the total cost of production before increasing profitability.”
"As for matters regarding waste management AWE partners with Clean Waters—a South African company and Anand Consultants—an Indian Company that provides waste water treatment plants that refine wastes into manure or fluids for watering plants.”
While Air Water Earth aspire to be the number one choice for environmental solutions in the region, they still meet several challenges such as dealing with the attitude of investors about the environment, pressure from people who want EIA certificates without meeting the required status and the ‘Business versus Environment’ dilemma.
"Some projects that constrain the environment are given priority if they promote development,” said Kayima.
Besides being the environmental expert that he is, Kayima is a family man. He is married to Irene Mbabazi and have a four-year old daughter Maxine Keza and three-year old son Justice Gisa.
Born in Uganda on the October 20th 1974 to Mr. Gahima Musoni and Mrs. Mukarugambwa, he is the second born in a family of six, 5 boys and a girl.
Kayima attended St. Peters Nsambya Primary School, Old Kampala Secondary School for both O’ and A’ Level and attained a Bachelors Degree in Education majoring in Economics at Makerere University. Currently, he is pursuing an online Master’s Degree in the Science of Bio-diversity.
