GICUMBI – A total of 115 classes and 456 toilet units are expected to be completed in Gicumbi district by the end of this year, under the nine year basic education program.

The revelation was made to The New Times by Gicumbi district director of education Deogratius Mwanafunzi.

"These new units are  in addition to 92 classes and 444 school toilets already constructed under the nine years basic education program in the entire district”, said Mwanafunzi.

He further said residents in all 21 sectors of the district have been sensitized to participate in ‘Umuganda’ to clear ground for the construction of more class rooms.

"The Ministry of Education has offered to avail iron sheets, cement and nails, so that the classes and toilets are ready for the 2011 students’ intake”, added Mwanafunzi.

The construction of classes was carried out at district level from Kageyo Secondary School, in Kageyo Sector last Saturday.

The community work was attended by Mayor Bonane Nyagezi, Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and National Police representatives.

During the community work, Nyangezi called on residents to put more effort in availing more classes for their school going children.

"Education for your children is an asset towards Rwanda’s economic prosperity,” said Nyangezi.
