Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has promoted 2,050 personnel to various ranks and categories, the Defence Ministry revealed yesterday.
Army and Defence Spokesperson, Maj. Jill Rutaremara, confirmed the development noting that the latest "general promotion” was in accordance with the requirements stipulated in the Constitution and the Presidential Order establishing the General Statute for RDF of 2002.
According to Rutaremara, these requirements include: seniority, military and specialized technical knowledge, competence, discipline "as well as the number of vacant posts to be filled.”
"The promotion of the various officers is recognition of the good service rendered and a reminder of more and heavier responsibilities. The promotions will also motivate the officers and enhance their morale,” Rutaremara said without going into detail of the promotions and categories.
"Since the last such general promotion was in 2002, there has been a big backlog.”
He added: "The RDF headquarters will soon release the names of the personnel who were promoted, through the military communication channel.” The ministry is scheduled to release further details tomorrow.
