KIGALI - President Paul Kagame has urged trainers of the newly introduced cultural education, Itorero ry’Igihugu to promote unity and development in the country.

He was speaking at the inauguration of about 24,000 trainers for the Itorero ry’Igihugu held at Amahoro Stadium in Remera on Friday. Kagame told trainers to serve as good examples to the public at all times in order to promote economic development and social welfare in their respective villages.

The trainers, who have been undergoing tutoring for the last one month, will help sensitise the masses on how to implement performance contracts (Imihigo) in their respective villages.

They will also help teach in their respective villages in a number of things including fighting Genocide ideology.

They are also to help in the implementation of the government programme of the Economic Revolution in rural areas which will assist in eradicating poverty among Rwandans.

Trainers will help in the teaching of the Rwandan culture in their villages as a way of promoting unity and good governance.

  On the same function, the best performing districts in the annual performance contracts and good governance were awarded with prizes.

Nyagatare and Musanze Districts were given a motor cycle, one computer and printer respectively.

In good governance, Gasabo and Ngoma Districts emerged the best and were also awarded with a motor cycle, computer and a printer respectively.
 Performance contracts which had been used to evaluate ancient chiefs during the pre-colonial era were re-introduced two years ago.
