Police swoop nets four suspected criminals

HUYE – A Police swoop carried out in collaboration with Mbazi sector residents has netted four people suspected to be members of a notorious group of robbers and rapists who have been terrorising area residents. The arrested are; Eliazar Nzabamwita alias Kiromba, 35, Gilles Uwizeyimana and Salvatore Rwagasore alias Kamidende, 39, all residents of Huye sector in Huye district.

HUYE – A Police swoop carried out in collaboration with Mbazi sector residents has netted four people suspected to be members of a notorious group of robbers and rapists who have been terrorising area residents.

The arrested are; Eliazar Nzabamwita alias Kiromba, 35, Gilles Uwizeyimana and Salvatore Rwagasore alias Kamidende, 39, all residents of Huye sector in Huye district.
The fourth suspect whose identity could not be obtained by press time was arrested on Monday night.
One single middle-aged lady, who begged anonymity sadly, narrated how she was raped by members of this notorious gang.

"I was sleeping on my bed with other children. Three men armed with machetes entered my room and ordered us to get up. They asked me where the head of the family was and I told them that I was single. They ordered me to give them my phone and thereafter raped me,” she said.

The suspected thugs are also reported to have attacked an old woman in the area. The gang also broke into a house of the Kinyana village leader who sustained a forehead injury in the ensuing fracas. The acts were said to have been committed between May 23 and 26.

Police sources indicate that the four nabbed suspected thugs had been previously convicted of related crimes. Eliazar Nzabamwita had served a ten-year sentence for theft; Gilles Uwizeyima had been sentenced for dealing in drugs while Rwagasore had been sentenced to three years over theft.

According to Claudine Mukamugende, Mbazi Sector Executive Secretary, community policing and  night patrols have been stepped up to ensure the security of residents and their property.
