Under close supervision of the Ferwafa technical director Michael Weiss, 60 players U-15 years of age from Kigali city are under going intensive training sessions at Remera playgrounds, near Amahoro stadium.
The youth football training camp, which started about a fortnight ago is an initiative of the local football governing body, Ferwafa as part of their long term plans to scout for talented young players who would be recruited in the national soccer academy due to start next year.
Michael Weiss told Times Sport that him and his staff want to get about 30 best players from the group of 60.
He, however, noted that this exercise should be regular and continuous throughout the year if the country is to achieve the best out of it.
"The best 30 players from Kigali city would be subjected to continuous assessment and my technical team will do the same job around the country to get the best U-15 national team,” said the German.
Weiss was relieved from the under-20 national team duties by the football federation so as to concentrate on his youth soccer development programmes.
The 40-year-old German tactician has been busy this holiday training with the under-15 players in Kigali city and a few months ago made trips to the Southern Province training with various youth soccer development centers.
Meanwhile, Weiss has called for more funds to ensure that the team gets regular full power training.
"We have been training for about two weeks now, but there is an urgent need for more funds to make the program a regular.
"We need full power training throughout next year,” Weiss said noting that the training would be intensified during school holidays when most of his players are available,” he noted.
The players were selected from six football centers in Kigali city during a specially arranged tournament, which was held on December 15-16 at Amahoro stadium.
The centers included Kimisagara, Kicukiro, Kacyiru, Gikondo, Remera and Kanombe where each center produced 15 players.
