AMAVUBI Stars took a huge confidence boost after yesterday’s commanding 4-1 win over Primus league side Police. The Wasps are preparing for Sunday’s crunch 2011 Chan qualifier against Tanzania at Amahoro Stadium.
SC Kiyovu midfielder Titi Ntamuhanga and the APR trio of Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Claude Iranzi and Emmanuel Sebanani were on target for Sellas Tetteh’s team which is desperate to build on their 1-all first leg result in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago.
Amavubi captain Patrick Mafisango missed yesterday’s game but believes the team has what it takes to qualify.
"Most of the players are fresh from the Kagame Cup so there is no doubt about their fitness. All we need now is a few days’ work with the coach to work on the systems,” he said.
On a low note, Roger Tchouassi, who scored Amavubi’s goal in the first leg, will sit out Sunday’s game after injuring his shoulder during Monday’s training session.
After Sunday’s tie, Taifa Stars will have a few hours to recover before their dream friendly with five-time world champions Brazil on Monday.
It will be the second and final warm-up game for the Samba boys who are drawn in Group G alongside Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea.
