American singer, songwriter, actor, Chris Brown will be in the country to officiate at the opening ceremony of the Pan Africa Festive of Dance (FESPAD) on June 24, at Amahoro Stadium.

The ‘I Can Transform Ya’ singer, is expected to perform alongside local and regional renowned artists, including Meddy, Kitoko, Shanel, Miss JoJo and Masamba (Rwanda), Julianne Kanyomwozi, Radio and Weasel (Uganda), Kidumu (Burundi) and Ally Kiba from Tanzania.

In an interview with The New Times, the Managing Director of FESPAD, Emmanuel Bugingo confirmed Brown’s arrival. However, he emphasized that he will only perform at the opening ceremony.

"We’re still arranging on how the artists will be performing at specific venues, because the festival is supposed to be held in all parts of the country,” Bugingo said.

FESPAD, a week-long dance festival that takes place bi-annually was initiated in 1998. It was intended to be an eye opener to the significance of culture but has over the years attracted other genres like hip-hop, drama and the recent introduction of contemporary dance.

The dance festival will attract countries from different part of Africa with the aim of promoting the culture of peace and exchange of African culture. 

Bugingo revealed that China, France, DRC and Madagascar are among the countries that will attend this year’s FESPAD. The festival will start on June 24-31.
