AS KIGALI took a huge step towards retaining the national women football league trophy after defeating arch rivals APR 2-0 at Nyamirambo stadium on Sunday.

APR needed to win to have a go at the title they lost to AS Kigali last year but the military side found themselves on the back foot when defender Aimee Flora Tuyizere scored an own goal on the 29th minute.

In the second half, AS Kigali striker and the league’s top scorer Mefya Hakizimana compounded APR’s misery with a well taken free kick on the 70th minute to take her tally to 30 goals.

While many have now handed over the trophy to AS Kigali, APR coach Egidia Kayitesi remains adamant.

"We still have two games to play so it would be very unwise to give up now,” Kayitesi said.

AS Kigali now hold a five-point advantage over APR.
Else where, Remera Rukoma defeated Rubavu 3-0, Les lioness lost to Bugesera 1-0 while Rambura pipped Ruhango 1-0.
