The four-time tour of Rwanda champion clocked 10 hours, 14 minutes and 31 seconds in the 360 km race to finish six seconds clear of Alexis Gasore in second place.
Clarisse Uwimana won the ladies competition after using 4 hours and 36 minutes, while John Kwizera won in the disabled category after his lone challenger pulled out.
Despite an increase in sponsorship (from Rwf3m to Rwf18m) for this year’s edition, many cyclists blasted the cycling federation for staging a below par event.
However, the federation’s vice president Fetus Bizimana shifted the blame to local clubs.
"They did not specify the number of riders they were fielding making it hard for us to plan for basics like water,” Bizimana reasoned.
It is also reported that six cyclists and two journalists sustaining minor injuries in one of the stages because the finish line was not properly demarcated.
For his heroics, Ruhumuriza walked away with Rwf450, 000 while Uwimana (women) and Kwizera (disabled) settled for Rwf70, 000 and Rwf40, 000.
