This letter is in response to another written to your news paper of 28th May 2010 from a resident of Nyarutarama and we would like to reply to customer’s concern about underground cables. RECO understand the client’s concern of the blackout they experienced in the area due to roads construction.

Therefore, we would like to inform him that RECO started implementing overhead network some years ago and the process is still ongoing. As you may have discovered, many low volts (LV) underground network cables, including 3,300 old poles are being replaced.

However, for Medium Volt network, underground cables are more applicable in cities because they are safer and do not compete for space with trees and buildings. Furthermore, the use of insulated ABC cable for Low Volt overhead is attractive as it co-exists with trees.

RECO is ahead of other utilities in the region in using these environmentally friendly overhead cables and poles for LV distribution and this was adopted as a company’s standard. RECO take this occasion to ensure its customers that it is committed to better service.
