The Kigali Independent University (ULK) yesterday donated Rwf2m worth of foodstuffs to Genocide survivors of Gisozi Sector, Gasabo District.
The Kigali Independent University (ULK) yesterday donated Rwf2m worth of foodstuffs to Genocide survivors of Gisozi Sector, Gasabo District.
The donation that included sacks of rice, bags of flour, beans, cooking oil and over 40 boxes of soap, were handed over by Senator Rwigamba Balinda, the founder and president of ULK.
He said that the donation was made to improve the living conditions of survivors.
"One of the major responsibilities of ULK is to always work together with government institutions to socially and financially improve the living conditions of vulnerable residents around our university, and even across the country,” Rwigamba said.
The Senator called upon Genocide survivors to always work hard in order to improve their social welfare and have hope for their future.
The Executive Secretary of Gisozi Sector, Elise Nshimiyimana, said that the beneficiaries were selected from two cells; Ruhanga and Rusezero ;.
The vice Mayor in charge of social affairs, Narcisse Ndagijimana thanked the management of ULK for donating the items but also requested ULK to extend similar assistance to other sectors in the district.
Rwigamba also asked the leaders of the two cells to identify six vulnerable Genocide students who completed A level last year and be given scholarships at ULK.
