KARONGI- The Minister of Health has hailed the National Police for playing a key in promoting good health for every Rwandan. 

Addressing thousands of residents who had turned up for the commencement of the National Police Health Week in Rugabano Sector in Karongi district, Dr Richard Sezibera commended the force for the services that promote both personal and public health of the population.

"Your input is required as we jointly advocate for better health standards in our society.”

"As much as the Police are charged with ensuring our security, they have also gone an extra mile in promoting our health. They deserve credit for that.”

The National Police week is dedicated to the campaign and advocate for better practices that promote both personal and public health among the population. The campaign also encourages the public to play a significant role.

The week is part of a series of ongoing activities organised by the police force to mark its10th anniversary.

Sezibera warned the residents against undermining the fight against HIV/Aids and also urged them to embrace the recent countrywide distribution of mosquito nets to avoid malaria.

He promised the government’s full commitment. "As a matter of fact, the government will be taking care of medical insurance for those who are unable to afford it.”

The Commissioner General of Police, Brig Gen. Emmanuel Gasana, explained that in addition to the distribution of free mosquito nets, other activities during this week include advocacy for voluntary HIV testing, family planning, blood donation and general domestic cleanliness.

"We must all do this to ensure better health because this is an important and essential aspect in national security. The Police has established a health centre in each province as a way of spearheading the campaign. Gasana said.

On his part, Western Province Governor, Celestin Kabahiz,i hailed the residents of Karongi District who have always worked with the local leaders to excel in the health sector.

"It is impressive that all the residents in the district have medical insurance (Mutuele de Sante) and more efforts are needed in the fight against maternal and infant mortality rate,” Kabahizi said.
