AFTER falling short in Kenya, Rwanda’s elite tennis player Jean Claude Gasigwa is looking to make amends in the Tanzanian leg of the ITF/CAT East Africa Money Circuit which got underway yesterday at Gymkhana Club, Dar es Salaam.

Gasigwa, who is the lone Rwandan in the event, is battling with the likes of Abuu Hamisi, Ibrahim Kessy, John Njau, Sebastian Mtupili and Omary Abdullah among others for the prize money which has been reduced to $500 (Rwf289,500) for men and $400 (Rwf231,600) for women. The reductions are due to the fact that the ITF grant for the tourney has not been wired.

In the just ended Kenyan leg, Gasigwa succumbed to Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe 2-6 1-6 in the semi-finals which were held at the Mombassa Sports Club.

Normally, prize money is $800 (Rwf463, 200) for men and $700 (Rwf405, 300) for women.
