Silverbacks land Kenya Invite

THE national rugby team-the Silverbacks has landed an invitation to take part in the 14th edition of the Safaricom Sevens tournament set for June 5-6 in Nairobi, Kenya. The two-day event, which will be live on SuperSport, is scheduled to attract sixteen teams including some of the world’s best in Fuji, New Zealand, Argentina, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Samoa among others.

THE national rugby team-the Silverbacks has landed an invitation to take part in the 14th edition of the Safaricom Sevens tournament set for June 5-6 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The two-day event, which will be live on SuperSport, is scheduled to attract sixteen teams including some of the world’s best in Fuji, New Zealand, Argentina, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Samoa among others.

The vice president of the National Rugby Federation (RRF) Gerald Nsenga who is also Silverbacks’ caretaker coach told Times Sport that being invited for Africa’s premier 7s tournament was testament of the huge strides rugby has made in the country.

"It is an honor to be invited in such a tournament and it shows that the sport is heading in the right direction.”
"We will start training next week,” Nsenga said.

After next week’s event, the Silverbacks will have two weeks to recuperate before playing in the Carcassonne 7s tournament slated for June 22 – 26 in France.

Meanwhile, this year’s national rugby league rolls off this Saturday with ten clubs in contention. These include reigning champions Buffaloes, three-time league champions Lion de Fer, Gorillas, UNR Grizzlies, Sharks, Simba, Puma, Kaduha tigers, Marines and ISAE.
