RUBAVU - Lawmakers from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo will, today, begin a four-day meeting in Rubavu, to strengthen bilateral ties between both countries.

Deputy Speaker Denis Polisi, told The New Times, yesterday, that the meeting will bring together 20 Rwandan MPs and 23 Congolese lawmakers.

He said that they intend to discuss a wide range of issues including the role of both parliaments in strengthening the relations and cross-border security.

Facilitated by an American NGO, ‘Initiative of Cohesive Leadership in DRC’, based in Kinshasa, the workshop will also review the progress of what was agreed upon by Presidents Paul Kagame and Joseph Kabila, during their historic meeting held August last year.

"Apart from the two Heads of States’ agreement, we need to see our people from both sides enjoying their security after crossing our borders and we need to consider the interests of the two countries,” Polisi added.

The Congolese legislators are mostly from Eastern DRC while the Rwandan delegates were selected basing on political affiliation and gender.
