ELITE golfer Emmanuel Ruterana is determined to end his silverware drought this year when he takes part in the Burundi Golf Open that tees off this morning at Bujumbura Golf Club.

Ruterana and Jean Baptista Hakizimana left for Bujumbura yesterday to take part in the 12th edition of the competition that has attracted over 30 golfers from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.

In the run in to the event, Ruterana praised the course.
"I have played on the course before and it is a good one. My swing is also coming on nicely so I feel I’m in a good position to claim the lion’s share of the USD 10.000 prize money,” the 28 year old said.

After the Burundi open, the duo will switch focus to the Kigali leg of the KCB East African Golf tour set for June 2-5.
About 40 professional golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi are expected to grace the event that will have prize money of Rwf7.47m.

After Kigali, the tour will move to Nakuru before heading to Kampala in July. The tour will then wind up with a grand finale at Nyali in Mombassa where Rwf 60m will be dished out in prize money.
