ATRACO Coach Sam Timbe is targeting a semi-final place at the on-going Kagame Cup with a win over Burundian champions Vita O this afternoon at Amahoro stadium.
The defending champions have been far from convincing after losing two of their 3 opening matches but Timbe is refusing to dwell on the past insisting that even last year, they had a difficult start but eventually won the trophy in Sudan.
"The important thing is that we are in the quarter-finals. Last year, we had a similar start including a 6-0 defeat against El-Merreikh but that did not stop us from winning the competition,” Timbe said.
The taxi men side will miss the services of two first team players- Ugandan winger Alimasi Kadogo through injury and goalkeeper Alexis Ganza through suspension.
Hamis Kitagenda and Ismail Mfashingabo are expected to start.
Vital’O Coach Yaoundé Kanyankole meanwhile sounded confident on his team’s chances of reaching the last four.
"We have reached this far when nobody thought we could. This gives us confidence that we can even go further,” he said.
In the other quarter final clash, St. George faces weaklings Telkom of Djibouti.
Telkom, who conceded 17 goals at the group stage were drafted into the quarter final following the expulsion of TP Mazembe for their unruly behaviour in Saturday’s top of the table clash with APR.
With such a weak record, St. George Coach Micho Sredojevic is optimistic his side will cruise through to the last four. St. George will miss key player Mohammed Nasser through suspension.
