RUHANGO –Rwanda Development Board (RDB) last Sunday contributed Rwf 6million towards the construction of Ruhango district genocide memorial site. The donation was handed over by John Gara, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RDB during the commemoration of genocide victims. The event was also attended by Minister of Youth, Protais Mitali, and members of Parliament.

The donation was handed over by John Gara, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RDB during the commemoration of genocide victims. The event was also attended by Minister of Youth, Protais Mitali, and members of Parliament.
Gara said, "When Genocide victims are not accorded a decent burial relatives of such victims are bound to be traumatized. This is the reason why we have to be at the forefront of efforts geared towards according victims a decent burial.”
Minister Mitali, encouraged residents to support survivors while fighting genocide ideology.
He said: "We should remember genocide victims because this teaches us to fight genocide and learn lessons of changing our history for a better future.”
The Minister lauded RDB for being exemplary in reaching out to communities and contributing towards the fight against genocide ideology.
Calling for greater community support, Genocide survivors reaffirmed their commitment to live with hope, but called on residents to reveal more information on whereabouts of remains of victims who are yet to be located.
The mourners made a 3km peaceful march from Gataka center to the district genocide memorial center where they paid tribute to genocide victims laid to rest at the site.
There are 11,260 bodies of genocide victims buried at the Ruhango site.
