The 2010 ‘Talent Awards’ by Kubana Events took place on Friday May 21, at Laico Umubano Hotel in Kacyiru and the fete kicked off at 7:30 p.m.

King James, Mani Martin, KNC and The Brothers, Tom Close and Miss JoJo graced the event and thrilled audiences with their brilliant performances.

"The concert was really awesome,” said Jackson Higiro, who attended the concert.

"I have been overwhelmed by the artists. Thanks to Kubana Events for motivating local talents,” Sylvia Umutoni told The New Times.

The best couple in salsa dance was Kassim Mbarushimana and Rachel Wansaula, who won air ticket to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

According to the ‘Abakobwa biwacu’ singer and founder of Kubana Events, Aimable Kubana, only the best couple in salsa was awarded as well as artists, who performed.

"We didn’t award the best footballers, basket players and the sports journalist because there was lack of communication on some radio stations,” Kubana said. "We decided to postpone their awards ceremony for next time.”
Kubana added that each artist who performed pocketed Rwf 50.000 in cash, while a group of 12 students from APE Rugunga, who presented modern dance routines, walked away with a cheque of Rfw160, 000 by the organisers and Simba Supermarket.

Despite the faulty with the air conditioning inside the hall, people flocked the venue in huge numbers. However, the problem was soon fixed and people enjoyed the show.

Last year, Kubana Events awarded the best local artists and one journalist from Rwanda Television, Evelyn Umurerwa for her role in promoting Rwandan music.

The event was sponsored by City Radio, Kenya Airways, Simba Supermarket, Winners (a local fashion shop), and Laico Umubano Hotel.

The after party was held at the newly renovated club, Planet club, where hundreds rubbed shoulders with the stars.

DJ Kadir spun the wheels and sent club goers dancing all night. A group of upcoming local musicians also performed.
