RWAMAGANA-  The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, has called upon district councillors in the country to work closely with the Executive Committees in order to develop their respective districts.

Speaking at a one-day workshop for district council chairpersons, Musoni said that they are the voices of the people and should, therefore, not let the problems of the Rwandan people go unanswered.

"You don’t seem to be vibrant in the development of districts. As councillors you should be able to know and solve the problems affecting people,” he said.

Musoni revealed that the government is assessing the impact of decentralisation, which started 5 years ago.
He also disclosed that councillors could soon be required to reside in their respective districts that they represent.

Cornell Ntakirutimana, the chairman of Gisagara district Advisory Council, said that the workshop was fruitful.
"We shared experiences and agreed on certain things that we need to address. Once we get back, we shall fill the gaps in our districts,” he said.

The workshop was organised by the Rwandan Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA), as part of its capacity building efforts.
