RWANDA’S elite athlete Dieudonné Disi has rubbished reports that he is set to retire after the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in India.
The 29-year-old, who did not take part in yesterday’s marathon due to a hamstring injury told Times Sport that he had thought of retiring from the sport three years ago but changed his mind and can not put a time limit on when he will retire.
"In 2006, I decided that I would retire after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games but then I had a change of heart after getting attractive offers from Adidas and Puma.”
"I signed a three year contract worth USD 180.000 (Rwf104.4m) with Adidas and I have never looked back since,” Disi said.
Last year, Disi competed in the World Marathon Championship only to pull out at the 28km mark after stretching a muscle.
He however made up for that slip with a series of victories in October; winning the 10,000m race at the Francophone Games, the Paris 20Km race and equalling the course record at the Reims Half Marathon.
He is certain to lead Rwanda’s surge at the Commonwealth Games scheduled for October 3-4.
