The Gender Monitoring Office (GMO), yesterday sensitized local leaders, directors of primary and secondary schools in Gasabo District on various ways of promoting gender of equality and fighting Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Addressing participants, Vincent Muragwa, an expert on Gender and Equality, called upon the local leaders to encourage the population to join efforts in the fight against GBV.

He also requested them to promptly report cases of GBV to relevant authorities.

"Gender Based Violence is a serious problem which needs an immediate solution because it hinders development,” Murangwa said.

"Go back in your respective homes and work places and mobilize all residents to always collaborate with the concerned authorities in fighting it” Muragwa said.

The meeting attracted participants from the civil society, police and local government.
