RWANDA’s top athlete Dieudonne Disi is working round the clock to make sure he is fully fit for the 17th Africa Senior Athletics Championships due in Nairobi, Kenya.
The 29-year-old has spent the last seven weeks off the track nursing a hamstring sustained during the Paris half marathon back in March but should make a cameo return during this year’s Kigali International Marathon.
In a recent interview with Times Sport, Disi confirmed that he would run in the 5km Run for fun race, which is a subsidiary event of the marathon.
"I’m not yet fit enough to run in the half or full marathon so I have limited myself to the 5km race. It should be a good work out for me,” he said.
This year’s Africa Senior Athletics Championships is scheduled for July 28 –August 1 and is expected to attract over 1300 athletes competing in 56 disciplines.
Disi’s only notable display this year was a 6th spot finish in February’s Puerto Rico half marathon.
After missing the January Abu Dhabi marathon, he pulled out of the Paris half marathon because of the hamstring, the same injury that ruled him out of last month’s World marathon.
