KCC seeks Rwf 300m in tax arrears from GOBOKA

KIGALI - It has been revealed that a housing cooperative society, GOBOKA, owes Kigali City Council land, property and rental income taxes worth Rwf 300m.

The revelation was made on Tuesday during a meeting that brought together KCC and members of the cooperative in Kibagabaga, Gasabo District.

During the meeting, KCC Director General, Aimable Gasana Ndakengerwa, ordered cooperative members to honour their obligations.

Most of the1500 taxpayers in the area had not paid all the taxes, alleging that they had not acquired all the necessary legal documents such as land titles and that their properties are not registered.

According to KCC, an office with engineers, surveyors and lands officials was opened in the area to facilitate residents get the required documents.

"We put in place all they needed to acquire the documents in time. It’s now their turn to rush and pay taxes within the given time limit before legal measures are taken,” Ndakengerwa said

The taxes have to be paid within 15 days.
According to the law, all those who fail to meet the deadline face fines of up to 40 percent of the total tax supposed to be paid and 1.25 percent increment for each month that elapses before clearing their arrears.
