MUHANGA – The Muhanga district vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Alice Uwimababazi, on Tuesday commissioned a new classroom block at Rugendabari Primary School’s new site in Rugendabari sector.

The building worth over Rwf 57million, was constructed by an International NGO, the Social Bureau of Development (BSD) with funds sourced from Margarita Fuchs Foundation.

The institution is meant to accommodate over 400 pupils.
Uwimbabazi and local leaders inspected and later on unveiled the new six classroom block and eight eco-friendly latrines.

The beneficiaries said that the new classrooms would uplift the academic standards and reduce on the risks previously faced by pupils who studied in dilapidated classrooms.

"The new classrooms have put an end to problems of pupils studying under poor classroom conditions and lack of facilities. We have been exposed to various hazards while extreme weather such as heavy  rains has had a negative effect on our performance,” one of the pupils said.

Uwimbabazi urged the teachers and local leaders to ensure proper use and care of the new blocks in order to improve on pupils’ performances.

She said: "This is a blessing to our community and everyone should be responsible in improving the standards of education. There is no more excuse for poor performance.”

Father Josephat Hitimana, the director of BSD, said that the organization is committed to making a significant input in government programs, like education, health and poverty reduction strategies.
