RDRC donates to One Dollar Campaign

Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC) yesterday donated Rwf1.1m to the ‘One Dollar Campaign,’ aimed at pooling funds for the construction shelter for hundreds of homeless student Genocide survivors.

The contribution was handed over by Jean Sayinzoga, the RDRC Chairman, to Apollinaire Nkotanyi, the One Dollar Campaign Project Manager.

Sayinzoga said that the funds were from the commission’s employees who found it imperative to contribute to the well being of the survivors, especially the homeless orphans.

Nkotanyi thanked the commission and revealed that the first phase of the project which will include the construction of a four-storied building that will be completed by June next year.

"We hope by this time some of the students will be settled,” he said

The building will initially accommodate 192 students.
The whole project will accommodate 800, part of the 4,000 students who belong to a Genocide survivors’ students’ association, AERG.

In a separate interview with The New Times, Nkotanyi said that the project slated to cost Rwf 4bn has so far received Rwf 885m in cash of the Rwf 1.46b pledged since it started in April last year.
