The United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Asha Rose Migiro, yesterday visited FAWE Girls School and expressed her gratitude over Rwanda’s ‘massive’ investment in human resource development, especially girl education.

Migiro was in Rwanda on a one-day visit to attend the International Forum on the Role of Leadership in Promoting Gender Equality and on the sideline the conference, she visited the school where she could not hold her excitement interacting with the girls.

"This is a living example of investing in human resource,” Migiro observed, "It will definitely have a multiplier effect on Rwanda’s growth.”

She praised Rwanda for women empowerment and social economic development, saying that every time she has come to Rwanda she has witnessed development.

"Rwanda has made it; the country is on the move forward and higher,” said Migiro.

Addressing students, Migiro pledged support from her office saying; "we will continue to nurture you as we plan for the leadership of tomorrow…we want this success to go beyond the borders of Rwanda.”

"Fly to the highest, don’t let anybody clip your wings,” she told students.

At the school, she toured several departments including the library where she interacted with a science class.

The headmistress of the FAWE Girls School, Sarah Ingabire, read out the history of the girls’ secondary school represents a shift by the country to promote education for all women and girls.

So far FAWE Girls School has 36 teachers and 770 students. The school, founded in 1999, is sponsored by the Forum for African Women Educationalists-Rwanda Chapter.
