RAYON Sport Coach Emmanuel Ruremesha was a frustrated man after seeing his side lose a deserved 2-1 lead to eventually settle for a 2-all draw against Ethiopia’s St. George on the second day of this year’s Kagame Cup.

After going down in the 3rd minute through a Said Salahadin spot kick, Rayon, one of three Rwandan sides in the competition, battled their way back into the match with a 21st minute strike from Jerome Sina.

The Blues then took the lead one minute into the second half through a Frank Makengo spot kick to send the fairly packed Amahoro Stadium into a frenzy.

The spot kick was a result of a foul on Rayon’s striker Theoneste Muhayimana.

Yusuf Ndayishimiye and Muhayimana had chances to kill off the game but wasted their opportunities and with six minutes to stoppage time, Rayon paid the price when Salahadin scored his second goal of the day from the spot kick following a reckless challenge by Sina.

St. George Coach Micho Sredejovic brought on Jimmy Gatete for Salahadin on the 81 minute but the former Blues’ star could only manage one shot on goal.
Rayon and St. George are now joint Pool B leaders with a point each.

Earlier in the day, reigning African Champions TP Mazembe left Djibouti’s Telkom for dead after an 8-0 hammering.

Striker Mvete Ghislain scored a hat trick, skipper Tresor Mputu netted a brace while Deo Kandae and Alain Kaliyutuka also added their names on to the score sheet to gift the Congolese side a dream start to the tournament.

Mazembe, who are also through to the last eight to the Orange Champions League, now top Pool A on goal difference. APR, who secured a 2-1 win on Saturday are level on points but have an inferior goal difference.
