TENNIS ace Jean Claude Gasigwa yesterday showed that he is still the leading tennis player in the country after edging out Mathieu Uwizeyimana 6-7, 6-2,6-2 in the professional category of the Bralirwa Tennis Open final at Nyarutarama Sports Club.

The 26-year-old lost the first set 6-7 but recovered to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 and win a cash prize of Rwf 150.000.

In the women’s category Gisele Umumararungu defeated Joselyne Umulisa 6-4,6-1 to claim the number one place and a cash prize of Rwf 150.000.

Augustin Gatera saw off Jean Paul Musoni 6-4,6-2 in the amateurs category and was awarded a trophy.

The six day event attracted 64 players from eight clubs including Cercle Sportif, Remera, Laico, Kanombe, Gisenyi, Ruhengeri, UNR and Nyarutarama.
