It’s that time of the year again when people travel to celebrate the festive season with their families, especially Christmas which marks the birth of Jesus Christ.

Speaking to The New Times, Brenda Akaliza who lives in the United State of America on why she came to Rwanda for the festive season, said that she had been missing home the whole year and that the celebrations hit differently with the family.

Akaliza pointed out that it has been a culture in her family since her childhood to mark Christmas day together with the entire family arguing that it is a good time to reconnect along with growing the family bond among other many things.

Derrick Ntagara also lives in Rwanda but he was born and raised in Uganda where he will be heading over the weekend to celebrate with his old friends who live there and the family as well.

Ntagara said that as a Christian he believes in Christmas and that it means a lot to the family, saying that new-born babies always bring unmeasurable joy in the family and recreating it as people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ is a good time for the families to pray and worship together as they prepare to enter the new year.

On his side, Beatrice Mukankomeje who resides in Kigali said that the vibes of the village during Christmas days bring back good childhood memories and that it’s a good time for families as people tend to spend New Year’s alone or with a friend instead of going to villages for it.

Nyirabuhake, 86 years old, is a mother and grandmother who said that it has always been a joy to see her children bring their kids on Christmas and celebrate it together because it makes her grateful for God’s love and protection in her life over the past years.

She also pointed out that Christmas is a good time for her grandchildren to enjoy life outside of the city.

Meanwhile, Police vow to crack down on drunk driving as more police officers, and mobile cameras will be deployed on roads across the city to arrest drivers for drunk driving and over-speeding.

The development was revealed by ACP Gerard Mpayimana, the Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, in a press conference about dos and don'ts during the festive seasons for the general security and well-being of the people that was held on December 22.
