Sunday’s World Cup final between Argentina and France produced the best football moments of the modern era but Coca Cola remains hailed for bringing the biggest game in Kigali at the right time and for the right people.
There were various places in Kigali to watch the game but Coca-Cola did the right thing by bringing an unforgettable experience to hundreds of football enthusiasts who gathered to watch the final on the big screens that were installed inside the Kigali Convention Centre.
Doors opened around 1 pm waiting for the 5pm kick off with many fans turning up clad in jerseys of their favourite teams with names of star duo Lionel Messi of Argentina and France’s Kylian Mbappe dominating the back of the shirt sleeves.
It was a full house giving good vibes as hundreds flocked the venue to witness the finalists tussle it out in what was the last and final game of the month long world cup showpiece.
Arriving people were welcomed with various beverages brewed by Bralirwa as they anticipated an entertaining finale in a Coca-Cola-branded venue. The house was full of black and red decorations.
The event was graced by different government officials such as the CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB) Clare Akamanzi, referee Salma Mukansanga who also participated in this year’s FIFA world cup various Athletes, and artists among others.
The 34-year-old was the Coca Cola brand ambassador throughout the World Cup campaign.
It’s no strange that many bet on the final before and during the game but RDB’s Akamanzi insisted that watching Paris Saint-Germain duo Mbappe and Messi facing off in such a historic game was a ‘sure bet’ for Visit Rwanda.
Argentina was leading the game with two goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria until France made a late comeback through Mbappe’s brace in the 78th and 81st minutes respectively to force the game into extra time.
Messi scored what could have been a winner for the Albiceleste but Mbappe responded with his third goal through the spot kick to send the game into penalties.
But it was Argentina who had the last laugh as they won the match 4-2 on penalties to clinch their third World Cup.
Meanwhile, Coca-Cola was there for everyone throughout the entire game where they provided enough drinks along with the food, good music from DJ Shooter and performance by ‘Inana’ hitmaker Chriss Eazy.
