KAMONYI – Police in Mugina are holding a resident of Nyamiyaga sector for allegedly dumping the Rwandan National flag into a 15-metre pit latrine.

Police say Innocent Kamana, 27, was arrested on Wednesday in collaboration with residents and local authorities through community policing efforts. Kamana pleaded guilty for committing the crime and begged for forgiveness.

"I am sorry for my actions. I did so, because I had been unexpectedly fired from my job. I just wanted to bother the school authorities,” he said.

The accused before his arrest served as a security guard at Bibungo Primary School. He was also found in illegal possession of a grenade that was retrieved from his home according to Jean de Dieu Nkurunziza, the Executive Secretary of Nyamiyaga Sector.

Upon being grilled Kamana revealed that the grenade was given to him by a local defence guard known as Alloys Rurangwa, who has since been detained.

The duo will be formally charged next week on separate counts of illegally possessing weapons and undermining national symbols, Police sources say.
