Getting something to dress in the morning can be quite a feat, especially when one’s closet is not properly organized. Some people are up to date when it comes to organization, others simply lazy around until when its time to go for a party and a certain dress or outfit is needed then one goes to dig into a mountain of heaped clothes somewhere.
Organizing the closet can be an easy or an uphill task depending on how one is looking at it, if two people are sharing a bedroom and each one has their closet, then its better ,but if the closet is shared between a couple then a lot of effort has to be put in, so that each person knows where they can find what.
There are different ways in which people can decide to arrange their closets. Some people put codes or tags on their closets to help them, others simply organize their closets by color depending on what a person prefers.
All in all a closet should not be a dumping site but a beautiful place where we keep our clothes safe and clean. Let’s go step by step on how to organize the closet.
Skirts and dresses
Skirt and dresses are best hanged on their own, simply because these types of clothes are usually flair and with lots of material, which makes it difficult to hang with other clothes.
Since most dresses are lengthy, the upper shelve can hold the dresses while skirts can be hanged on the lower shelves because of the shorter length. They can also be arranged according to colors for ease of reference.
Trousers
Trousers are best kept after ironing, unlike other clothes like polo shirts. There are two ways in which one can arrange different types of trousers. Trousers made out of soft linen and cotton materials look organized when they are hanged.
The khaki trousers or jeans can look good in the closet when they are folded, this is because khaki and jeans are hard materials and therefore are not easily affected by the folding.
Blouses and Shirts
First start by grouping your things, one can start with tops e.g blouses, shirts, T-shirts, polo shirts, and anything else considered a top.
These tops when being hanged should be tucked at the arms to prevent getting wrinkled. When stacking, place the bulkiest tops at the bottom to prevent crushing of delicate tops like the silk.
Shoes
Shoes can be a problem area in any closet or bedroom. Unless organized properly, shoes can end up in a jumbled mess at the bottom of your closet, under your bed, or anywhere else in the house you happen to take them off.
This can be very frustrating when you are hurrying to find that perfect pair of pumps to go with the outfit you have chosen for a night out with friends.
The more shoes you have, the more unruly they may become. The most interesting part in organizing a closet is the shoe part. One can decide to arrange the shoes in the closet, or can have an independent shoe rack.
Which ever way you prefer to arrange your shoes, just make sure they are not thrown anywhere and everywhere.
Neckties, Socks and Knickers
These little things get lost all the time if they are not always arranged in their proper places, or dropped in a designated place for immediate cleaning. Neckties, socks and knickers can be folded in drawers each on their own.
Handbags, handkerchiefs, jewellery can also be well arranged in the closet, if the closet is big enough to hold everything, to avoid running all over the bedroom to locate different things in different places.
In the process of organizing the closet;
- Do not store cold weather clothes in a dark humid area because mildew can easily multiply in that area.
- Never use mothballs; the smell of it is very hard to remove in the fiber.
Mothballs are not necessary if you will keep the clothes in a dry place for less than a year.
- Be careful with delicate fibers. Lay sweaters flat when possible to avoid wrinkles. Or double them over, folding softly where necessary
- Fold all knit tops and sweater. Hanging them may lead to deformed shoulders and too much stretching
Organize your closet today and be freed from unnecessary clutter in your room.
