Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has set a target of registering over 20,000 new businesses in 2010.

This was revealed yesterday by the Registrar General, Eraste Kabera, while speaking at the meeting that brought together government agencies, the business community and the civil society to review the progress in doing business reform in Rwanda.

"Our main target this year is to register at least 20,000 new businesses because registration has been made easier and cheaper,” he said.

He added that, there are more informed sectors who are conducting their businesses in the country that are not registered by RDB, so they are going to bring them on board and be registered.

"We are going to carry out serious awareness campaigns so that we implement the Single Point Registration mechanism,” he said.  

He added that on-line business registration is available and is going to be launched very soon.

"We have so far improved in doing business rankings and increased the number business registered 6,905 (2009) from 6,805 during the last five years,” he noted.  

"The cost of doing business in Rwanda has drastically reduced, they used to start with 600$ but now it was changed to 43$ now it is easier and cheaper to start a business”.

According to Claire Akamanzi, the Chief Operating Officer RDB, the government has implemented far reaching changes to the business activities, improving the competitiveness and fostering private sector development.

"We have seen improvements in doing business in the country, with the biggest improvement in 2009,” she noted.
She underscored that, it is better to do business in Rwanda, and they will make sure that it becomes cheaper and easier than it currently is.

"Our country has achieved a lot in terms of providing a conducive business environment,” she said.
