What if your boss requested to be your friend on Facebook, would you add them as friends or simply become hardcore and slam their request back onto their faces.

Below are the responses from a wide range of employees.

"If someone wants to be your friend how do you refuse? If you are his secretary it might be a problem but if you are not, it is okay to add your boss as a friend.”

Uzaramba Marie Florence, Employee at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

"I wouldn’t add my boss as a friend on Facebook because they might complain that I spend a lot of time on Facebook instead of working. Also, if he is a man, then there is the other issue of hitting on me.”

Passy Uwiringiyimana, Cashier at MULTI Services.
"If my boss is male I would first ask my boyfriend. If he says its okay, I would add my boss but if my boyfriend says no, I wouldn’t add my boss as a friend on Facebook. If it’s a female boss she might plot to catch me spending time on Facebook.”

Mireille Uwitonze, Cashier at Relief Sport.

"I think it depends on the relationship you have with your boss. It can be only a work related relationship or he can be a personal friend whom you share a few things like going out for coffee.”

Robert Ndoli, MTN Customer Care Operations.

"If it’s a guy there is no problem if but for a lady, I am afraid it might extend to other issues.”

Yves Karambizi, Employee at Hello Company Technology.

"No! Facebook is outside work. If my boss becomes too much of a friend, he ceases to be my boss. Besides Facebook is for me and my friends not my boss.”

Sylvia Uhirwa, Employee with Public Service Commission.

"I would first find out how my boss behaves and treats workers. I would also find out if he has a wife before deciding on whether to or not add him. If it is a lady I would say yes.”

Christella Umuhire, Cashier at Shokola Restaurant.

"I would add my boss because if I refuse he might take it badly. But after accepting him as a friend, I would start monitoring the way I use Facebook.”

Thomas Rukundo, Motor Hardware Shop Attendant, Nyamirambo.

"A boss without a wife—no problem but one with a wife—no way; however, it’s okay to add women bosses.”

Lillian Umaralungu, Rwandan Actress and Traditional Dancer.

"You can include him as a friend in order to enhance your relationship with your boss.”

Robert Kwefuga, Database Administrator at Nyarugenge District Headquarters.

"If it is a guy of course I accept. But if it is a lady and my girlfriend found me chatting, she would take it the wrong way.”

Eric Rukundo, Student  at SFB.
