We are all signed on or have heard about Facebook; the social networking website through which people can connect with friends, as well as send messages and update their profiles.

Well, the idea of facebook had humble beginnings but eventually worked out like magic.

The complex system was co-founded by American Mark Zuckerberg from his dorm room on February 4, 2004, while studying at Harvard College.

He started the project along with his college roommates and his fellow classmates Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, and Chris Hughes at who were doing Computer Science at the college.

The original concept of Facebook was borrowed from a product produced by Zuckerberg’s prep school, Phillips Academy. For decades, it had published and distributed a printed manual of all students and faculty, unofficially called "The facebook”

After its invention, The facebook membership was strictly for the Harvard students. Other students from renowned universities were the second group to get chance of using the network.

Around this time the idea of facebook got known to other countries and continents.

Facebook became popular so fast and high school students got involved by signing up to the new internet site.

In June 2004, Facebook moved its base of operations to Palo Alto, California. The company dropped The from its name after purchasing the domain name ‘facebook.com’ in 2005, paying $200,000.

By 2006, most people world wide that had access to the internet had a notch about Facebook. Even 13-year-olds were signing up and hooking up with friends on Facebook.

Today it has grown so big and as of  2010, Facebook was officially named the second largest social network after ‘Myspace’ with 400 million active users worldwide.

Mark Zuckerberg, himself has turned out one of the wealthiest teens with $ 4 Billion on his bank account, courtesy of his invention.
