INVITES just can’t stop coming in for the men’s national rugby team- the silverbacks. The team has landed an invitation to take part in the Newport 7s tournament. The event is slated for July 15 -17 in England.
Newport rugby club is one of the biggest rugby clubs in Wales and organizes a 7s tournament annually where teams from Africa, Asia and America are invited to take part.
The Vice President of the National Rugby federation and also Silverbacks caretaker coach Gerald Nsenga told Times Sport that it was an honor for such a club to invite the Silverbacks.
"It is the invitation we have received this year which is a good sign,” he said.
"Last year, Newport finished second in the league, so it is an honor for us to be invited to take part in the Newport 7s.”
On Tuesday, the Silverbacks started non residential training for the Carcassonne 7s tournament slated for June 22 – 26 in France.
Meanwhile the 2010 league rolls off May 22 with ten clubs in contention. These include reigning champions Buffaloes, Lion de Fer, UNR Grizzlies, Sharks, Simba, Puma, Kaduha tigers, Marines, Gorillas and ISAE.
