Sunrise FC Striker Yafesi Mubiru has admitted that the 2022/23 Rwanda Premier League top scorer award is on his radar as he looks to score more goals for his club to increase the chances of winning the individual prize.
The Ugandan attacker scored in the 2-1 win over AS Kigali on Wednesday, December 21 to move top of the goal scoring charts with 10 goals and go level with AS Kigali striker Shabani Hussein before the first round of the league comes to an end.
Mubiru, who is in the form of his life at the Eastern Province-powered outfit, emphasized that it has been a perfect season for him so far and is only hoping to clinch the golden boot award.
"My season has been so far so good although we have had hard times along the journey in our first round. Regardless, we continue to move forward." Mubiru told Times Sport in an interview
"I personally want to top the goal scoring charts this season. Hopefully, I will triple my goals in the second round. I am confident that, in God and hard work, I can do it," he added.
Mubiru promised to score more goals but urged the fans of the Nyagatare-based club to keep supporting him so he can help the team get better results and finish the league campaign on an impressive note.
"The supporters should expect more efforts and goals from me in the second round. I want to put my team in the top position,``he added.
Next to Mubiru and Shaban Hussein is Etincelles striker Moro Sumaila who has eight goals to his name so far this campaign.
The talented Ghanaian forward, who is on AS Kigali’s transfer shortlist, has netted 8 goals so far and he hopes to score more goals when his side host APR Thursday at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.
