Red Cross donates to the vulnerable

HUYE – International NGO Red Cross in Gisagara and Huye districts last week-end donated materials worth Rwf0.5 million to vulnerable residents. The donation conceded with celebrations to mark the 151st anniversary of the Red Cross world –wide.

HUYE – International NGO Red Cross in Gisagara and Huye districts last week-end donated materials worth Rwf0.5 million to vulnerable residents. The donation conceded with celebrations to mark the 151st anniversary of the Red Cross world –wide.

The donation included food items, clothing and utensils which were sourced from different districts to help the vulnerable. The beneficiaries welcomed the donation and hailed the Red Cross for mobilizing the assistance.

"I am an orphan and I can hardly feed my three little brothers, I’m  relieved because I will no longer have to bother my neighbors for cooking utensils,’ said Stephanie Mukandutiye,  an orphan and head of a family in Ngoma Sector.

Paul Bizimana, the national coordinator of the Red Cross youth volunteers said the NGO does not  only give direct support to the vulnerable but it also strives to offer support for sustainable development.

The organization through its various programs has been paying school fees for children from vulnerable families on top of giving them cows as a way of helping them out of poverty.

Red Cross pays school fees for 275 children in secondary school and youth training centers in Huye district.
