APR vs Vital’O
VITAL’O were forced to delay their trip to Kigali by an extra 24hours following a passport hitch for two of their players.
The Burundian giants are now expected in the country this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s Kagame Cup opener with APR at Amahoro stadium.
Speaking to Times Sport from Burundi’s capital-Bujumbura, the team coach Yaoundé Kanyankole revealed that the delay was caused by two youngsters who are only making their maiden senior trip outside Burundi.
"There was a slight delay but we should be in Kigali tomorrow (today),” Kanyankole, who also had a short coaching spell at Rayon Sport said.
Vital’O has been labelled underdogs in Pool A which also has African champions TP Mazembe and Telkom of Djibouti.
In a related development, Cecafa have been forced to revise the tournament schedule after Sam Timbe’s recent remarks.
The Atraco tactician, who masterminded the club to last year’s Kagame Cup title after beating El Merreikh in the final, recently expressed his skepticism about Regional’s ability to host late kick-off games owing to the fact that the stadium lacks floodlights.
It is now said that Pool games will be split between Amahoro and Regional while quarterfinals, semifinals and the final will all be played at Amahoro.
Twelve teams are in contention this year with the winner pocketing $30,000 and $20,000 and $10,000 for the first and second runners up courtesy of President Paul Kagame.
