RWAMAGANA - Officials from different government ministries and other bodies on Monday started a three-week training in International Economic Law.

The training facilitated by the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) is being implemented by the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILDP).It is aimed at briefing participants on regional economic integration.

Opening the workshop, Brekmans Oscar Bahizi, the ILDP vice Rector, Administration and Finance, said that the training is a result of the memorandum of understanding reached between ILDP, the Ministry of East African Community and BTC.

The participants will be trained on laws regarding regional cooperation including the EAC and COMESA.

"For Rwanda to be fully embraced in the regional economic bloc, we need to develop fundamentally the legal capacity at local levels,” Bahizi said.

"That is why we are investing  in training like this one that brings together officials from different institutions…the purpose is to create a desired cohesion of institutions with a common approach.’

Dr. Fidele Masengo, one of the trainers said that different institutions in Rwanda, need to understand the legal dimensions of both regional and international integration.
The trainees include legal practitioners and various Government officials.

Pascal Ngendahimana, an expert in Trade Finance Investment and Economic Affairs in the Ministry of EAC affairs, who is one of the trainees, told The New Times that the trainees are expected to acquire a better understanding of the legal aspects of integration as it impacts on the local economy.
