THE yet to-be-renovated Umuganda stadium will have a 10,000 capacity, Times Sport has learnt. According to Sports minister Joseph Habineza, the stadium will be upgraded from 6,000 to 10,000 in preparations for next year’s Caf U-17 Africa Youth Championship which will be hosted in Rwanda.

"This stadium will be one of the modern stadiums that Rwanda has ever had and it will meet both Caf and Fifa standards.”

"The complete overhaul of the stadium will start in two weeks and it should be ready by mid December,” Habineza said.

It will have a VIP lounge, conference room, media area, referees room, fans’ stands, squad rooms and a synthetic pitch among others.

The other venues for the continental championship include Amahoro and Nyamirambo’s regional stadium.

Rwanda was approved as hosts in last year’s Caf congress held in Lagos, Nigeria following a successful conclusion of the U-20 Youth Championship which was won by Ghana under the tutelage of then coach Sellas Tetteh.
