In a phone interview, APR president Brig. Gen. Alex Kagame confirmed to Times Sport yesterday that Ngassa is in Kigali for talks with the club.
"Ngassa is in Kigali and we will talk to him today (yesterday) to see his demands before we can make a final decision.
"It’s true he wishes to join APR and we will see what we can do after talking to him,” Gen. Kagame said yesterday.
Young Africans Secretary General, Lawrence Mwalusako, confirmed that the player had already informed him about his APR move.
"He went there to negotiate with the club and we are waiting for the results of their meeting,” said Mwalusako.
Young Africans, he said, cannot stop any player from searching for a better life provided the player, the team or the agent follow transfer rules and regulations.
Ngassa tormented Rwanda during the first leg of the CHAN final qualifying round early this month and went on to equalize for Taifa Stars in the 1-all draw match played in Dar es Salaam.
Ngassa, who has been constantly hunted by European teams failed to pass a trial at English Premier League side West ham last year.
This was the second time Ngassa got a request for trials from European teams. Lov-Ham of Norway was the first team to seek his services.
However, the teenager’s earlier move hit a snag after the Norwegian club messed up with transfer procedures for not involving his club in the process.
Ngassa was the top scorer at last year’s Cecafa Challenge Cup with 5 goals as Tanzania finished fourth in the tournament. His speed and dribbling skills make him a major goal creator and scorer.
In a related development, former Amavubi goalie Ramadhan Nkuzingoma has joined APR as a goalkeeper’s coach on a temporarily basis replacing Jean Claude Ishimwe.
