The Government has revealed plans to set up a first rate vocational centre on Iwawa island in Rutsiro district. This initiative will go a long way in offering those enrolled great employment opportunities.
And, with the government involvement, the vocational training costs will be catered for, therefore, little or no cost to the learners.
According to the Ministry of Youth, there are 11 different courses, each lasting one year, including a three months industrial training. Also, 80 per cent of the curriculum is practical work.
Rather than focusing on academic education, the vocational curriculum has placed emphasis on technical skills and preparation for the job market. For the learners, Iwawa is absolutely the opportunity to a path of guaranteed employment.
There is no doubt that employers place high value on hands-on training, and since that is what vocational training offers, upon completion, the learners will not only have the skills relevant to the chosen career, but will also have a working knowledge prior to entering the work environment.
By launching the vocational school, the government has not only provided the youth with employment possibilities, but has also given the economy a prospective skills boost.
