Editor,
Allow me take the opportunity to thank the banks operating in the country for heeding to the national call to improve customer care.
I have observed an improvement in the way banks operate but a bigger problem still remains in as far as the queues are concerned.
Particularly, without mentioning names, banks with branches located in strategic parts of the city like the city centre, Nyabugogo, Kisementi, Kimironko and Kacyiru should devise ways of cutting the long queues during the peak hours of the day.
While some banks have devised systems of managing clients for quick service, such as client numbers, some of them still use slow teller systems which make customers wait for unnecessarily longer periods at the counter, waiting to be served.
We would very much appreciate if our banks moved a notch higher by ensuring that a customer spends as little time as possible on the counter to enable as many customers as possible to transact their businesses.
Long queues keep away clients and potential future customers. While increasing the number of tellers is a solution, fast and efficient banking systems restore the confidence of a customer in the bank.
Allow me also take this opportunity to encourage the banks to expedite the mass use of ATM machines and cards. This will definitely solve a big chunk of the problem.
