Grassroots leaders warned against facilitating drugs smuggling

NYAGATARE — The Regional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Gilbert Gumira Rwampungu, has warned grassroots leaders in Nyagatare district against collaborating with  drug dealers. While meeting the local leaders last week, Chief Supt. Gumira said that the grassroots leaders have been cited in cases of illicit drugs smuggled into the district from the neighboring Uganda.

NYAGATARE — The Regional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Gilbert Gumira Rwampungu, has warned grassroots leaders in Nyagatare district against collaborating with  drug dealers. 

While meeting the local leaders last week, Chief Supt. Gumira said that the grassroots leaders have been cited in cases of illicit drugs smuggled into the district from the neighboring Uganda. 

‘You should work hard to build your country instead of supporting people who are bent on  destroying gains made through trade in  illicit drugs…it has been reported that some of you local leaders are corrupted by these smugglers,’ he said.  

During the meeting, Kiyombe sector was named as being an infamous transit route for the illicit drugs. 

Eric Rwamu, one of the local leaders in the district expressed concerns about some unconfirmed reports that  some leaders were receiving  bribes from drugs smugglers.
