NYAMAGABE - At least 14 female students who excelled in the last year’s ‘O’ Level and Primary Leaving Examinations in Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts, Southern Province, were on Saturday awarded for their academic success.

The prizes which included scholastic materials and laptops were donated by Imbuto Foundation. MP Odette Nyiramirimo, of the East African Legislative Assembly, who represented the First Lady Jeannette Kagame at the function, urged female students in the country to be guided by determination and clear objectives in order to succeed in their lives.

"Self-confidence should be considered as key ingredient to success,” Nyiramirimo said.

She further advised  girls to take advantage of the many opportunities at their disposal, citing the government’s commitment to promote girls’ education.

She also cautioned the students against falling prey to the whims of ‘sugar-daddies’ who lure them into sexual relationships, appealing to the students to instead focus on their studies.

The MP called upon parents to take all children to school without discrimination.

Claudette Sebukayire Mukandayishimiye, a student at Groupe Scolaire Kigeme, who excelled in Primary Leaving Examinations at Runyinya Primary School, said the awards  had motivated her to work even harder.

At the same function, Imbuto Foundation also rewarded four guardian angels (commonly referred to as Malayika Murinzi) from Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe districts.

Each received a cow and a certificate for protecting and caring for orphaned children in their communities.
