Williams Tennyson, Action Aid’s international Director for Africa region, has hailed developments that have taken place in Rwanda within the last 16 years, attributing them to the good leadership under President Paul Kagame.

He made the remarks yesterday after paying tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi at Gisozi Memorial Centre where hundreds of thousands of the Genocide victims are laid to rest.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Tennyson said that the country has taken tremendous steps in building from the ashes.

"Rwanda has emerged as a successful country within a short period of time because in all international meetings and conferences I have attended, Rwanda is always highlighted as a success story,” he said.

"There is a lot happening in rebuilding the nation, these are the signs of good leadership.”

Tennyson stressed that Genocide should never happen again and this is a lesson for all Africans to retain.

He blamed the international community for not having responded soon enough to stop the Genocide in Rwanda.
He added that Action Aid International is committed to advocate for women’s rights, children’s rights and ending poverty in Rwanda.

In his three-day official visit, he also visited Action Aid’s development area in Shingiro, Musanze District in the Northern Province.
