MUSANZE – Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) members in the Northern Province have unanimously voted for incumbent President Paul Kagame as their party candidate, sweeping all 325 votes of the provincial electorate.

The primaries which are part of the process to select a candidate to represent the party in the forthcoming Presidential elections slated for August this year, attracted five contestants from the province

The provincial congress is composed of the RPF executive members from the five districts. .

The RPF-Inkotanyi chairman in the Province, Aime Bosenibamwe said that there is no need to change the team leader who has restored democracy, unity and order in the country.

Bosenibamwe rallied party members to support President Kagame for his unwavering struggle to fight poverty, providing a clear vision to the national development and for his record of accomplishing what he pledged during his first term in office. 

Boniface Rucagu, withdrew his candidature in favour of Paul Kagame. Other contestants for the top RPF post included Winifrida Mpembyemungu, Pierre Damien Hakizayezu, and Justus Kangwaje.  

"It is a great achievement to vote Kagame as the candidate because under this government, Rwandans are respected everywhere in the Diaspora, the country is on a phase of economic transformation, and we are backing him to lead us in the struggle,’’ Samuel Sembagari, one of the party members said shortly after declaring the results.  

He said that party primaries show that RPF’s record of restoring peace and setting a clear development path, will serve as a strong pillar for future generation.
